The Post Service Officer
The Post Service Officer is the Post guide for veterans, their families, and those who help veterans access information about VA benefits, services, and compensation. Compensation is defined by statute as monetary benefit paid by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to veterans because of disability resulting from disease or injury incurred in or aggravated by active military, naval, or air service.
Benefits may also be awarded in certain cases where disability results from training, hospitalization, medical or surgical treatment, physical examination, or vocational rehabilitation. A person receiving military retirement pay who is eligible for compensation may receive such compensation by filing waiver of his retirement pay.
The VA Form 21-22 names a recognized organization as the representative for the veteran, giving authority to any accredited representative of that organization to review a file. Post Service Officer can help the veteran get started and provide general guidance. The Post Service Officer for the American Legion Post 71 is Ben Miller, phone# 940-262-3105. This is a local Denton number.
